Emma was excited about her day at the beach. The sun was shining brightly in the blue sky. She packed her beach bag quickly. She put in her towel, sunglasses, and a book. Her mother called from the kitchen. 'Emma, do not forget the sunscreen!' 'I will get it later,' Emma replied. She was in a hurry to meet her friends. Emma left the house without the sunscreen. At the beach, her friends were already waiting. 'Emma! Over here!' shouted Lisa. Emma ran across the warm sand. Lisa and Marco were putting on sunscreen. 'Do you want some?' asked Marco. 'No, thanks. I will be fine,' said Emma. The three friends spent the morning swimming. The water was cool and refreshing. Later, they built a sandcastle together. The sun was getting stronger. Lisa noticed that Emma's shoulders were turning pink. 'Emma, you should really use some sunscreen,' she said. 'I forgot it at home,' Emma admitted. 'Here, use mine,' Lisa offered her bottle. 'Thanks, but it is probably too late now,' Emma laughed. She did not know how right she was. In the afternoon, they ate ice cream. The cold treat felt wonderful in the heat. By four o'clock, Emma started to feel strange. Her skin was very red and hot. 'I think I got a sunburn,' she told her friends. Marco looked at her shoulders with concern. 'That looks painful,' he said. Emma decided to go home early. When she arrived, her mother saw her red skin. 'Oh, Emma! I told you to take the sunscreen!' she exclaimed. 'I know, Mom. I am sorry,' Emma said quietly. Her mother got some aloe vera gel from the bathroom. She gently applied it to Emma's shoulders and back. The cool gel felt soothing on her burning skin. That night, Emma could not sleep well. Her skin was too sensitive to touch the sheets. The next morning, she looked in the mirror. Her face and shoulders were bright red. 'I look like a tomato,' she thought. She had to stay home for the next few days. Her skin started to peel after a week. Lisa and Marco came to visit her. 'How are you feeling?' Lisa asked. 'Better, but I learned my lesson,' Emma replied. 'I will never forget sunscreen again!'
