Last summer, I visited Berlin for the first time. I took a train from Munich early in the morning. The journey took about four hours. I watched the beautiful German countryside through the window. When I arrived at Berlin Central Station, I was excited. The station was very modern and large. I took the subway to my hotel near Alexanderplatz. The hotel room was small but clean and comfortable. After checking in, I went for a walk to explore the city. My first stop was the famous TV Tower at Alexanderplatz. The tower is 368 meters tall and you can see the whole city from the top. I bought a ticket and took the elevator to the observation deck. The view was absolutely amazing. I could see the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, and many other landmarks. The next day, I walked to the Brandenburg Gate. This gate is one of the most important symbols of Germany. Many tourists were taking photos in front of it. I asked a friendly woman to take a photo of me. She was from Spain and we talked for a few minutes. Near the Brandenburg Gate, I visited the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. It was a very moving and important place. For lunch, I found a nice restaurant near Unter den Linden. I ordered a traditional German dish called Schnitzel with potatoes. The food was delicious and the portions were large. In the afternoon, I visited Museum Island. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with five famous museums. I chose to visit the Pergamon Museum because I love ancient history. The museum has incredible artifacts from Babylon and ancient Greece. I spent three hours there and still did not see everything. In the evening, I walked along the Spree River. The city lights reflected beautifully on the water. I stopped at a small cafe and had a coffee and a piece of cake. On my third day, I visited the East Side Gallery. This is the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall. Artists from all over the world painted colorful murals on it. The most famous painting shows two men kissing. It represents the end of the Cold War. I walked along the wall for about two kilometers. After that, I explored the trendy neighborhood of Kreuzberg. There were many small shops, cafes, and street art. I bought a small souvenir for my mother. For dinner, I tried a famous Berlin dish called Currywurst. It is a sausage with curry sauce and it was very tasty. On my last day, I took a day trip to Potsdam. Potsdam is a beautiful city near Berlin with many palaces. I visited the famous Sanssouci Palace and its gardens. The palace was built for King Frederick the Great. The gardens were full of beautiful flowers and fountains. I walked through the park for several hours. In the evening, I returned to Berlin to catch my train home. At the station, I bought a Berlin magnet and some chocolate. The train ride back was quiet and peaceful. I looked at my photos and remembered all the wonderful things I saw. Berlin is a city with a fascinating history. It has beautiful architecture, great food, and friendly people. I definitely want to visit Berlin again someday. Maybe next time I will visit in winter and see the Christmas markets.
