Maria had not seen her entire family in three years. She lived far away in another city because of her job. This summer, her parents organized a big family reunion. Maria was very excited about the reunion. She took a week off from work to travel home. The journey was long, but Maria did not mind. She thought about all the people she would see. Her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins would be there. When Maria arrived at her parents' house, she felt happy. Her mother ran outside to hug her. 'My dear Maria, you look wonderful!' her mother said. Maria smiled and hugged her mother tightly. Her father came out of the house with a big smile. 'Welcome home, sweetheart,' he said warmly. The house looked exactly the same as Maria remembered. She walked through the garden where she had played as a child. The next day, family members started arriving. First came her grandmother with homemade cookies. 'These are your favorite,' grandmother said with a wink. Maria's grandfather was right behind, carrying fresh vegetables from his garden. Then her aunt Rosa arrived with her two children. The children were much bigger than Maria remembered. 'You have grown so much!' Maria said, surprised. Uncle Pedro came with his guitar, as always. He loved to play music at family gatherings. By afternoon, the house was full of people. Everyone was talking, laughing, and sharing stories. Maria's mother prepared a huge dinner for everyone. There was roasted chicken, fresh salad, and homemade bread. The table was not big enough for everyone. So they set up extra tables in the garden. The weather was warm and perfect for eating outside. After dinner, uncle Pedro started playing guitar. Everyone sang old family songs together. Maria remembered singing these songs as a little girl. Her grandmother told stories about the old days. She talked about how the family came to this town many years ago. The children listened with wide eyes. Maria looked around at all her relatives. She felt grateful to be part of this family. The reunion lasted for three wonderful days. When it was time to leave, Maria felt sad. She hugged everyone and promised to visit more often. 'Family is the most important thing in life,' her grandmother said. Maria knew her grandmother was right, and she carried those words in her heart as she traveled back home.
