It is a warm summer day. An ant works very hard. She carries food to her home. The ant wants to save food for winter. A grasshopper sits in the sun. He sings a happy song. The grasshopper does not work. He sees the ant working. 'Why do you work so hard?' asks the grasshopper. 'I save food for winter,' says the ant. The grasshopper laughs. 'Winter is far away,' he says. 'Come and play with me!' 'No, I must work,' says the ant. The summer days pass. The ant works every day. The grasshopper plays and sings. Then winter comes. The snow falls and it is very cold. The ant is warm in her home. She has a lot of food. The grasshopper is cold and hungry. He has no food. He goes to the ant's house. 'Please give me some food,' he asks. The ant remembers summer. 'You played while I worked,' she says. The grasshopper learns to work hard and plan for the future.
