Sophie came home from work on a Friday afternoon. There was a beautiful bouquet of roses on her doorstep. Sophie picked up the flowers and looked for a card. There was a small card that said: 'From someone who cares.' Sophie was confused. 'Who could have sent these?' she wondered. She called her best friend, Maria. 'Did you send me flowers?' Sophie asked. 'No, but that sounds romantic!' Maria laughed. Sophie thought about the men in her life. Her colleague Tom was always very friendly. Could it be him? On Monday, Sophie went to work early. She watched Tom carefully all day. But Tom acted completely normal. He did not mention flowers or anything special. 'Maybe it was not Tom,' Sophie thought. Then she remembered her neighbor, David. He always smiled at her in the hallway. Sophie decided to talk to David. She knocked on his door that evening. 'Hi David, did you send me flowers on Friday?' she asked. David looked surprised. 'No, I did not. But I wish I had thought of it!' Sophie laughed and went back to her apartment. The mystery continued. A week later, Sophie got another bouquet. This time it was yellow tulips. The card said: 'Hope these make you smile.' Sophie looked at the handwriting carefully. It looked familiar somehow. Then she realized - it looked like her mother's writing! Sophie called her mother immediately. 'Mom, are you sending me flowers?' she asked. Her mother laughed on the phone. 'Yes, my dear. I wanted to brighten your day.' 'You live so far away now, and I miss you.' Sophie felt her eyes fill with tears. 'Thank you, Mom. I love you.' The mystery was solved, and it was the sweetest answer.
