A2 Finnish GrammarPast Tense
Form Finnish past tense using the imperfekti (-i-) for simple past and perfekti (olla + past participle) for completed actions.
1Imperfekti (Simple Past)
Add -i- before personal endings. Stem vowel often changes or drops.
Imperfekti Formation

Examples
Ostin uuden auton.
I bought a new car.
osta- → osti-
Hän tuli eilen.
He/She came yesterday.
tul- → tuli
Menin kotiin.
I went home.
men- → meni
He asuivat Helsingissä.
They lived in Helsinki.

2Negative Past
Negative past uses 'ei' + past participle (stem + -nut/-nyt).

3Perfekti (Present Perfect)
Use 'olla' (present) + past participle (-nut/-nyt, -neet).
