Once upon a time, a king and queen had a beautiful baby girl. They named her Aurora, which means dawn. The king invited everyone in the kingdom to celebrate. He also invited three good fairies to bless the baby. The first fairy gave Aurora the gift of beauty. The second fairy gave her the gift of song. But before the third fairy could speak, an evil fairy appeared. Her name was Maleficent, and she was very angry. She was not invited to the celebration. She cursed the princess to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die before her sixteenth birthday. The king and queen were terrified. But the third fairy still had her gift to give. She said she could not undo the curse, but she could change it. The princess would not die, but fall into a deep sleep instead. Only a kiss from her true love could wake her. The king ordered all spinning wheels in the kingdom to be burned. The three fairies took Aurora to a cottage in the forest. They raised her there to keep her safe. They called her Briar Rose and never told her she was a princess. Aurora grew into a beautiful young woman. She loved to sing and dance in the forest. One day, she met a handsome young man. They fell in love immediately. She did not know he was Prince Phillip. On her sixteenth birthday, the fairies told her the truth. They said she was Princess Aurora and must return to the castle. Aurora was sad to leave, but she followed them. At the castle, she found a hidden room with a spinning wheel. Maleficent appeared and tricked Aurora into touching it. Aurora touched the spindle and fell into a deep sleep. The fairies found her and placed her on a bed. They put the whole kingdom to sleep until the curse could be broken. Prince Phillip learned that his love was the princess. He rode to the castle to save her. But Maleficent turned into a dragon to stop him. The prince fought bravely with his sword. With the help of the good fairies, he defeated the dragon. He ran into the castle and found Aurora sleeping. He looked at her beautiful face. He bent down and kissed her gently. Aurora opened her eyes and smiled. She said she knew him because she had dreamed of him. The whole kingdom woke up. Aurora and Phillip were married. They lived happily ever after.
