Emma stood on the platform with her backpack. She was waiting for the mountain train. The train arrived at exactly nine o'clock. It was an old red train with large windows. Emma found a seat next to the window. An elderly man sat across from her. He smiled and said hello. The train slowly left the station. Soon, they were passing through green valleys. Emma took out her camera. She wanted to photograph everything. The mountains appeared in the distance. Their peaks were covered with snow. 'This is my favorite route,' said the old man. 'I take this train every month.' Emma asked where he was going. 'To visit my daughter in the mountains,' he replied. The conductor came to check the tickets. Emma showed her pass. The train began to climb higher. They crossed a tall bridge over a river. Emma looked down at the blue water. It was a little scary but exciting. A woman with a food cart came through the train. Emma bought a coffee and a sandwich. The old man bought some chocolate. He offered a piece to Emma. She thanked him and took it. The train entered a long tunnel. Everything became dark for a few minutes. When they came out, the view was amazing. A beautiful lake appeared below them. The water was a deep green color. Small boats floated on the surface. Emma took many photos of the lake. The train stopped at a small village station. Some passengers got off with hiking boots. New passengers got on with skis. The old man pointed to a mountain. 'My daughter lives near that peak,' he said. Emma could see small houses on the slope. They looked like toys from this distance. The train continued its journey upward. The air became colder as they climbed. Emma put on her warm jacket. Snow started to appear on the ground. The trees were covered in white. It looked like a winter wonderland. The old man stood up to leave. His stop was coming next. 'Enjoy the rest of your journey,' he said. Emma waved goodbye as he got off. She watched him walk toward a waiting car. A woman hugged him warmly. That must be his daughter, Emma thought. The train started moving again. Emma looked at the empty seat across from her. She smiled, thinking about the kind old man. The final station was just twenty minutes away. Emma decided to come back again soon.
