Tom woke up feeling terrible. He had a headache and his throat hurt. He also felt very tired. Tom decided to see a doctor. He called the clinic to make an appointment. 'Good morning, City Health Clinic,' said the receptionist. 'Hello, I would like to see a doctor today,' said Tom. 'What seems to be the problem?' asked the receptionist. 'I have a bad headache and a sore throat,' Tom explained. 'We have an opening at ten o'clock. Does that work for you?' 'Yes, that is perfect. Thank you,' said Tom. Tom arrived at the clinic at half past nine. He went to the reception desk and gave his name. 'Please take a seat in the waiting room,' said the receptionist. Tom sat down and waited. There were other patients in the waiting room. An old woman was coughing quietly. A young man was reading a magazine. After fifteen minutes, a nurse called Tom's name. 'The doctor will see you now,' she said. Tom followed the nurse to the examination room. Doctor Miller was sitting at her desk. 'Hello Tom, please sit down,' said Doctor Miller. 'What brings you here today?' 'I have been feeling sick for three days,' Tom said. 'I have a headache that will not go away.' 'My throat is very sore and I feel tired all the time.' 'Do you have a fever?' asked the doctor. 'I think so. I felt hot last night,' said Tom. 'Let me check your temperature,' said Doctor Miller. She put a thermometer in Tom's ear. 'You have a slight fever. It is thirty-eight degrees,' she said. 'Now let me look at your throat.' Tom opened his mouth wide. 'Say aah,' said the doctor. 'Your throat is red and swollen,' she observed. 'I will also listen to your chest.' She placed her stethoscope on Tom's back. 'Please breathe deeply,' she instructed. Tom took several deep breaths. 'Your lungs sound clear,' said Doctor Miller. 'I think you have a throat infection.' 'Is it serious?' Tom asked, looking worried. 'No, it is not serious,' the doctor reassured him. 'But you need to rest and take medicine.' 'I will write you a prescription for antibiotics.' 'Take one pill twice a day with food.' 'You must finish all the pills, even if you feel better.' 'I also recommend taking some pain medicine for your headache.' 'You can buy that at any pharmacy without a prescription.' 'Drink plenty of water and warm tea,' the doctor added. 'How long should I stay home?' asked Tom. 'Stay home for at least three days,' said the doctor. 'Get plenty of sleep and avoid going outside in the cold.' 'If you do not feel better in a week, come back to see me.' 'Thank you, Doctor Miller,' said Tom. 'You are welcome. Take care of yourself,' she replied. Tom went to the pharmacy to get his medicine. The pharmacist gave him the antibiotics and pain medicine. Tom went home and went straight to bed. He took his medicine and drank hot tea with honey. After a few days of rest, Tom started to feel much better.
