Emma loved being outdoors. Every weekend, she went hiking in the mountains. One Saturday morning, she packed her backpack. She put water, sandwiches, and a map inside. Her dog Max was excited too. He jumped around the house and barked happily. Emma drove to the start of the hiking trail. The parking lot was almost full. Many people wanted to enjoy the beautiful day. Emma put on her hiking boots and started walking. The trail went through a forest at first. The trees were tall and green. Birds were singing in the branches. Max ran ahead and sniffed everything. After an hour, the forest ended. Now the trail went up a steep hill. Emma breathed heavily but kept going. She stopped to drink some water. The view behind her was already amazing. She could see the whole valley below. A small river ran through the valley. Emma continued climbing for another thirty minutes. Finally, she reached the top of the mountain. The view from the top was breathtaking. She could see mountains in every direction. Some mountains still had snow on top. Emma sat down on a big rock. She took out her sandwiches and started eating. Max lay down beside her and rested. They had walked a long way. Another hiker arrived at the top. His name was Tom and he was from the city. 'Beautiful day for a hike!' Tom said. 'Yes, the weather is perfect,' Emma replied. Tom took some photos with his camera. He offered to take a photo of Emma and Max. Emma smiled for the camera. After lunch, Emma began walking down. Going down was faster but harder on the knees. She was careful not to slip on the rocks. Max ran ahead, looking back to check on her. In the forest, Emma heard a noise. She stopped and looked around. A deer was standing between the trees. It was beautiful with big brown eyes. Emma stood very still so she would not scare it. After a moment, the deer ran away. Max wanted to chase it, but Emma called him back. They continued down the trail. An hour later, Emma reached her car. Her legs were tired but she felt happy. Max jumped into the back of the car. He was tired too and fell asleep quickly. On the drive home, Emma thought about the hike. She remembered the beautiful view from the top. She also thought about the deer in the forest. It had been a perfect day. Emma decided to come back next weekend. Maybe she would try a different trail. There were so many mountains to explore.
