A1 Swedish GrammarNumbers 1-100

Learn to count in Swedish from 1 to 100. Master the Swedish number system which is similar to English but with some unique features. Essential for everyday situations like shopping, telling time, and giving your phone number.

1Numbers 1-12

The numbers 1-12 in Swedish must be memorized as they don't follow a predictable pattern. These are the building blocks for all higher numbers. Note that 'ett' is used when counting or with ett-words, while 'en' is used with en-words. For example: 'ett äpple' (one apple) but 'en bok' (one book).

2Numbers 13-19

The teens in Swedish are formed by combining the single digit with '-ton' (from 'tio' meaning ten). This is similar to the English '-teen' ending. Some numbers have slight spelling changes when combined.

3Tens (20-90)

The tens are formed by adding '-tio' to the base number. Swedish uses twenty, thirty, etc. similar to English but with the 'tio' ending (from 'tio' = ten). 'Tjugo' (20) is the only irregular ten that doesn't follow this pattern.

4Compound Numbers (21-99) and 100

For compound numbers like 21, 35, 48, Swedish simply puts the ten first, then the single digit - no 'and' needed. This is simpler than English! One hundred is 'hundra' in Swedish.
