1De and Het
Dutch has two definite articles: 'de' (common) and 'het' (neuter). About 2/3 of nouns use 'de'.

2Het-Word Patterns
Diminutives (-je), verbs used as nouns, and words with ge-/be- prefixes are often het-words.

Most Dutch nouns form plurals with -en. Spelling may change to keep vowel sounds.

4Plural with -s
Words ending in -el, -em, -en, -er, -je and many loanwords take -s.
