Emma was excited about her first skiing holiday. Her family was going to the mountains for a week. They packed warm clothes and drove for six hours. When they arrived, everything was covered in snow. The hotel was small but cozy. Emma's room had a view of the ski slopes. The next morning, the family went to rent ski equipment. Emma got skis, boots, and poles. The boots felt heavy on her feet. 'You will get used to them,' her father said. Emma had signed up for a beginner's skiing lesson. Her instructor was a friendly woman named Lisa. There were five other beginners in the group. Lisa first taught them how to walk in skis. It was harder than Emma expected. She kept slipping on the flat snow. Next, they learned how to stop. 'Make a pizza shape with your skis,' Lisa explained. Emma practiced the pizza stop many times. After lunch, they went up the small practice hill. Emma looked down and felt nervous. 'Don't worry, I'll be right next to you,' Lisa said. Emma pushed off and started sliding down. She went too fast and fell in the soft snow. Everyone laughed, including Emma. She got up and tried again. This time, she remembered to make the pizza shape. She stopped safely at the bottom of the hill. 'Well done!' Lisa cheered. By the end of the day, Emma could ski down the practice hill without falling. Her legs were tired, but she was happy. The next day, Emma joined her family on the bigger slopes. They took the ski lift up the mountain. The view from the top was amazing. Emma could see the whole valley below. Her mother skied slowly next to her. Her brother went much faster ahead. Emma fell a few times, but she always got back up. In the evenings, the family ate dinner at the hotel restaurant. They talked about their adventures on the slopes. Emma loved the hot chocolate they served. On the last day, Emma wanted to try the blue slope. It was longer and steeper than the green ones. 'Are you sure?' her mother asked. 'Yes, I want to try,' Emma said. The blue slope was challenging. Emma had to concentrate hard. She made wide turns to control her speed. When she reached the bottom, she felt proud. Her whole family clapped for her. 'I'm so proud of you,' her father said. On the drive home, Emma looked at the photos on her phone. She had pictures of the snowy mountains and her new friends from the ski class. 'Can we come back next year?' she asked. 'Of course,' her parents said with a smile. Emma couldn't wait to ski again.
