Emma and her brother Max arrived at the ski resort early in the morning. The mountains were covered with fresh white snow. They checked into their hotel and left their bags in the room. 'I can't wait to hit the slopes!' Max said excitedly. They rented skis and boots from the equipment shop. Emma also needed poles and a helmet. The ski instructor welcomed them at the beginner's area. 'Have you ever skied before?' he asked. 'A few times, but it was years ago,' Emma replied. Max had more experience and joined the intermediate group. Emma practiced on the gentle slope first. She learned how to stop and turn properly. After an hour, she felt more confident on her skis. The weather was perfect with blue skies and sunshine. Emma took the chairlift to a higher slope. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. She could see the entire valley covered in snow. Emma started down the slope slowly and carefully. A few other skiers passed her quickly. She fell twice but got back up each time. By lunchtime, Emma was hungry and tired. She met Max at the mountain restaurant. They ordered hot soup and sandwiches. 'How was your morning?' Max asked. 'Challenging but fun! I fell a few times,' Emma laughed. Max smiled and said he had tried a difficult black slope. After lunch, they went back to the slopes together. Emma felt stronger and more balanced now. She tried a longer blue slope this time. Max skied beside her and gave her tips. 'Bend your knees more,' he suggested. The afternoon sun made the snow sparkle. They took several runs down the mountain. Emma improved with each trip down the slope. At four o'clock, they decided to take a break. They sat on the terrace and drank hot chocolate. Other families were enjoying the resort too. Children were learning to ski with their parents. 'This is the best vacation ever,' Emma said. As the sun began to set, the sky turned orange and pink. They returned their equipment to the rental shop. Back at the hotel, they relaxed in the warm pool. Their muscles were sore but they felt happy. They had dinner at the hotel restaurant. 'Same time tomorrow?' Max asked with a grin.
