Emma walked into the library on Tuesday afternoon. She was looking for room 204. Her math grades had been falling all semester. Her professor had recommended a tutor. Emma found the small study room at the end of the hallway. A young man was sitting at the table inside. He looked up and smiled at her. 'You must be Emma,' he said. 'I'm David Chen, your math tutor.' Emma shook his hand nervously. 'Thank you for meeting with me,' she said. David gestured to the chair across from him. 'Please, have a seat.' Emma sat down and placed her textbook on the table. 'So, tell me about your struggles with math,' David said. Emma sighed deeply. 'I don't understand algebra at all.' 'The equations confuse me completely.' David nodded with understanding. 'Many students feel the same way,' he said. 'When did you first notice the problems?' Emma thought for a moment. 'I think it started in high school.' 'I never really learned the basics properly.' David opened his notebook and began to write. 'That's very helpful information,' he said. 'We can work on the fundamentals first.' He pulled out a piece of paper. 'Let's start with a simple problem.' Emma looked at the equation nervously. 'Take your time,' David said gently. 'There's no rush here.' Emma picked up her pencil and started to work. She made a mistake on the second step. David pointed to the error without judgment. 'What do you think happened here?' he asked. Emma looked at her work again. 'Oh, I forgot to multiply both sides,' she said. 'Exactly!' David replied with enthusiasm. 'You found the mistake yourself.' They continued working for the next hour. David explained each concept patiently. Emma began to feel more confident. By the end of the session, she had solved three problems correctly. 'You made great progress today,' David said. Emma smiled for the first time that week. 'Same time next Tuesday?' David asked. 'I'll be here,' Emma replied happily.
