Maria had been having headaches for several weeks. She also noticed that reading had become difficult. Her friend suggested that she should visit an optician. Maria made an appointment for the following Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, she arrived at the optician's shop. The shop was bright and had many glasses on display. A friendly woman welcomed her at the reception. 'Good morning, how can I help you today?' she asked. Maria explained that she had an appointment for an eye exam. The woman checked the computer and found her name. 'Please take a seat, the optometrist will see you soon,' she said. Maria sat down and looked at the magazines on the table. After five minutes, a man in a white coat called her name. 'Hello Maria, I am Dr. Weber,' he said with a smile. He led her into a small examination room. The room had a large chair and some strange machines. 'Please sit in this chair,' Dr. Weber said. Maria sat down and tried to relax. 'When was your last eye exam?' the doctor asked. 'About three years ago,' Maria replied. 'And what problems have you been experiencing?' he asked. Maria told him about her headaches and difficulty reading. 'Let us check your eyes then,' said Dr. Weber. He moved a large machine in front of her face. 'Look through here and tell me what you see,' he instructed. Maria could see a chart with letters of different sizes. She read the letters from top to bottom. The smaller letters were very blurry. 'I cannot read the last two lines,' Maria admitted. Dr. Weber changed the lenses in the machine several times. 'Which is better, one or two?' he kept asking. After many tests, the doctor finished the examination. 'Your eyes have changed since your last visit,' he explained. 'You need glasses for reading and computer work,' he said. Maria was not surprised to hear this. 'The headaches should stop once you start wearing glasses,' he added. Dr. Weber gave her a prescription for the new glasses. She went back to the main shop to choose some frames. There were hundreds of different styles to choose from. Maria tried on several pairs of glasses. Some were too big and others were too small. A shop assistant helped her find the right size. 'These blue frames look very nice on you,' she said. Maria looked at herself in the mirror and agreed. The blue frames made her face look younger. 'I will take these ones,' Maria decided. The assistant explained the different lens options. Maria chose lenses that would block blue light from screens. 'Your glasses will be ready in about one week,' the assistant said. Maria paid for the glasses and left the shop. One week later, she received a phone call. Her new glasses were ready to be collected. Maria went back to the optician's shop that afternoon. The shop assistant gave her the new glasses in a nice case. Maria put on the glasses and looked around. Everything looked so much clearer now. She could read the small text on a poster across the room. 'How do they feel?' the assistant asked. 'They are perfect,' Maria replied with a smile. The assistant also gave her a cleaning cloth and some spray. 'Keep your glasses clean for the best vision,' she advised. Maria thanked her and left the shop feeling very happy. That evening, she read a book without any problems. The words were clear and her eyes did not feel tired. After a few days, her headaches completely disappeared. Maria was glad that she had visited the optician. She told her friend about her new glasses the next day. 'I should have done this years ago,' Maria said. Her friend smiled and said, 'Better late than never.' Maria nodded and looked forward to many more books to read.
